As a theatre historian, I often find myself asking the question “What must it have been like?”  What must it have been like to sit outdoors in Athens during the 5th century B.C.E. and watch men in masks chant choral odes in unison?  What must it have been like to stand up against the stage in Elizabethan England and listen to Lady Macbeth obsess over the blood stains on her hand?  I feel so very fortunate that there are times when I’m able to come close to answering these kinds of questions.

With this production of Learned Ladies, we tried to offer audiences a taste of what it must have been like to sit in a Baroque Style Theatre, and experience the wit and wisdom of France’s greatest playwright: Moliere. From the chandeliers and proscenium arch, to the wigs and bustles, we’ve tried to capture the spirit and fun of French Neo-Classical Theatre.
