About Me

I believe theatre creates a welcoming space for plurality. Whether it is in the classroom or on stage, multiple perspectives must come together in order to make a lasting impact.

Over the years, my understanding of my role as teacher has encompassed so much more than just imparting knowledge.

As an educator, I work:

  • To challenge my students and audiences to move out of their comfort zone

  • To engage with students one on one as an advisor and mentor

  • To rely on my extensive disciplinary expertise to guide my courses and productions

  • To push students to make braver and bolder choices

My story of how I came to be a theatre arts professor is probably not that unique. While in high school, I became heavily involved with the Drama Club, performing in numerous productions over all four years. While in college, I felt tremendous pressure to choose a major that would result in a “stable career,” but the connection I felt to performance and story telling was simply too strong.

I majored in Theatre Arts at Stetson University, and went on to earn an MA and a PhD in Theatre from Bowling Green State University. The trajectory of my professional teaching career took me from Ohio, to Texas, and eventually back full circle to a tenured position as Professor of Theatre at Stetson University.
